Welcome Reception

Arts Commons

Join us as the sun goes down and the city lights come up as we kick off GHGT-17. Guests walking into the Arts Commons will hear soft background music playing. The soothing tunes will create a perfect backdrop for reconnecting with old friends and making new ones.

Your taste buds will be tantalized on a culinary journey across Canada with an array of delectable finger foods and light appetizers. A selection of complimentary drinks, from beers to fine wines and non-alcoholic drinks will complement the culinary adventure. Located in downtown Calgary, just steps away from the Calgary Telus Convention Center, the Arts Commons is the largest performing arts centre in Western Canada and the third largest in Canada. The Arts Commons is the Burns Building, which was constructed in 1912. Open to all fully registered Delegates and registered accompanying persons. Name badges are required to gain access to the Welcome Reception.

Strike up the fun at our students’ night bowling extravaganza! Get ready for a night of laughter, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories because we’re turning the bowling alley into the hottest spot in town for our students’ night party! This is no ordinary reception; it’s a turbocharged bowling bash that’s bound to roll you over with excitement. The venue is just a short 9-minute walk from the Telus Convention Center..

Open to all registered students and IEAGHG Summer School alumni. Name badges are required to gain access to the Student Event.

Informative First Nations videos showcasing the heritage of Indigenous people will be played when you are on the bus, allowing you to immerse yourself in the cultural journey on your way to the Dinner. Step into the vibrant world of Canada’s First Nations as the ballroom unveils a breathtaking tepee scene. Symbolizing the enduring traditions of the indigenous people, the tepee infuses the atmosphere with authenticity, serving as a captivating focal point for capturing the essence of the evening’s gathering. 

Delegates will be greeted by the soulful rhythms of a First Nation performance, evoking the spirit and heritage of Canada’s Indigenous people. Whether it is the resonating beat of traditional drums or the melodies of Indigenous songs, this captivating performance sets the tone for an unforgettable evening, honouring the cultural richness and diversity of our land.
