Emissions Reduction Alberta
Based in Alberta, Canada, Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) invests in innovative clean technologies and solutions to lower both greenhouse gas emissions and costs, keeping industries competitive while supporting the growth of new ones. Scaling up innovation will help ensure Alberta and Canada succeed in a lower emissions world.
Created in 2009, ERA has committed over $884 million to 246 cleantech projects with a total project value of over $7.1 billion. These investments will achieve cumulative emission reductions of approximately 40 million tonnes by 2030, and much more when the technologies are adopted into the marketplace. This funding comes from the province’s large emitters who choose to pay into the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) Fund as a compliance option if they are unable to meet emissions reduction targets. Spanning Alberta’s industrial sector, projects funded by ERA through a competitive and transparent process generally receive investments between $0.5 million to $10 million to accelerate demonstration and first-of-kind commercial deployment of their technologies.
ERA understands the importance of building partnerships, sharing ideas and innovations, and learning from real-world experiences, which is why we are co-hosting GHGT-17. We look forward to welcoming the world’s CCUS researchers, innovators, and thought leaders to Calgary, Alberta, Canada for GHGT-17 in 2024.
